Petition against me is baseless - Former governor Godswill Akpabio

Former governor of Akwa Ibom state, now a Senator, Godswill Akpabio has responded to a petition filed against him to the EFCC for abuse of public trust and alleged gross misappropriation of Akwa Ibom tax payers funds via a statement. Read below...
The immediate past governor of Akwa ibom State, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio has described the petition of alleged corruption against him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as  false and baseless .
Speaking through Mr Aniekan Umanah who served him as Information and Communications Commissioner, Akpabio, who is currently in the Senate representing Akwa Ibom North East said he was responding to the petition by one Barr. Leo Ekpenyong with great sadness.

Senator Akpabio however stated that rather than condemning Ekpenyong for taking this course of action,  he is grateful to God that the petition is an opportunity to clear a lot of misconceptions and horrendous lies,  those opposed to his(Akpabio’)s emergence and leadership of the state had fed the rumour mill in Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Akpabio observed that  the petition betrays a lack of understanding of the workings of government, noting that,  every sum withdrawn from a government account is tied to a subhead and a budgetary provision, explaining that, attributing fraud to withdrawals, which had the full sanction of Government, and was accommodated in the budget is mischievous.
On amounts bandied by the petitioner as the gross earnings of Akwa Ibom under Akpabio, the former governor disputed the claims arguing that,  the idea that the Akwa Ibom State Government received over N2.5 trillion (or N3 trillion) in the eight years of his administration is an outrageous lie.

Such claim, he said would mean the state received an average of N26 billion monthly, which he faulted, harping that, Published accounts of disbursement from the Federation Accounts,  corroborate the evidence that Akwa Ibom State never received up to N26 billion in any month throughout his tenure,  adding that, in some months like April and May, 2015, Akwa Ibom State received about N8 billion only.

On the allegation of owning various houses in Abuja, Lagos and other countries,  Senator Akpabio described the allegation as false maintaining that, ownership of the said houses can be verified from Lagos State Land  Registry as well as from the land registry in Abuja respectively.

Senator Akpabio also cleared the air on owning any property in Ghana or in St. Kitts & Nevis, and  challenged  anybody to prove the contrary. Explaining that, he was invited to attend the inauguration of the current President of Ghana as a member of the Presidential delegation from Nigeria alongside many other Governors and Nigerians who were on the delegation, Akpabio disclosed that, he was also invited to attend the 30th Independence Day celebration of St. Kitts and Nevis by the then Prime Minister who visited the State on a working trip to Nigeria, and wondered how simply visiting a country could translate into owning properties there.

While dismissing allegations of picking the leadership of ALGON and owning shares in Julius Berger, Senator Akpabio said contracts awarded followed due process and charged his traducers to acknowledge his track record of performance, visible and landmark achievements in office rather than finding faults where there is none, regretting that, the opposition have, in their desperation and frustration, crossed the line of decorum, truth and decency with their torrents of propaganda and blackmail.

Who will accept before that he/she is a thief? EFCC should wake-up from their slumber and stop hunting Yahoo Yahoo boys and do the real job very well, those criminals politicians need to be in Kirikiri prison. Becos anybody can not just loot public money and go away with it just like that. EFCC should hunt this people, in my own view they are using their son or their relations names to acquire all those property and they must not go free.

Gov Akpabio is one of the best governors (former) in Nigeria.
He has a heart for his people and has served us well. It was said that if you met the governor face to face with a need, you would never leave him the without a gift.
He once stopped his convoy because he saw a blind man on the road. he immediately ordered that a car be given to the blind man.

He has left indelible marks across the Akwa Ibom and even though I do not support all his project decisions, He is still a hero to his people.

If while serving a governor he could afford houses in Lagos and Abuja and Ghana, is that a sin? has anyone asked who are the owners of the oil blocks in the Niger Delta while the people languish in poverty? Which governor doesn't have houses in those places?

Please free my Senator so he can concentrate in the Senate and bring more goodies to his people

It is really sad, that in a country where one is able to buy Judges like Akpabio did in Akwa Ibom State recently and got a rogue judgement and nobody bothered to question him and sanction the Judges involved, then there is something terribly wrong with the system. In a country where murders remain unsolved with the perpetrators walking large, then there is something systematically wrong. Never a time has there been such wanton killings and corruption in any previous Governments in Akwa Ibom State or any other State in Nigeria, than that of Godswill Akpabio.

Are we too blind to see that he needs to be made to give account of his stewardship? If his hands are clean and his conscience is clear, why then is he running from pillar to post? Is that why he bought his way to be the Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate, so that he can hide under that guise? Is this profoundly corrupt person, someone who should be a Senate Minority Leader of a chamber as hallowed as the Senate? Let it not be a shame on our country, and our leaders that we failed to act, when there was a dire need to do so.
We must not say, that 'this too shall pass'. Let it be put on record that the very essence of our War Against Corruption, may become a laughing stock and the very people being probed by the EFCC at the moment will have every right to ask, 'is Godswill Akpabio untouchable?'

Please let us act and  the time to act is now! There is too much at stake! He is currently a sponsor of the NDA, in order to put fuel in the country and set it ablaze. He recently claimed, that if given the time 'You will begin to see, what will happen to Saraki', I did not know that you did not want work with him, now that I know, leave it with me and just give me time.... (Allegedly said when he holed up to Tinubu's Bourdillon Road house to beg for the EFCC to 'take it easy with him, that he has little children)'. (These 'little children will ask questions... Daddy what did you do? Did you steal from the State?... Daddy it is wrong to do that...)...  He sure knows, how to drum the chord of betrayal and to be a traitor.  The house boy syndrome has never left him.

He once claimed, that he used to eat from the dustbin... Would that be the reason why he went all out to literally sweep the State of all of the allocation that was meant for the quality development of the State? This is someone that used to dole out millions to local Government chairmen for them to 'use and buy Mr Biggs. Was he doing this from his private money? No he was not! He went to pick up the commissioner position given to him by Governor Victor Attah in a night bus. Lest we forget.. So how much then was in his account then, when he got into Government? When we know that which in this case, it is obvious , that it was not a lot, then we can do the math.

All of the above does not require a rocket scientist to see that a few years later, not due to any business deals, as he lacks good business acumen, he tries to repatriate 7.2 billion dollars to Nigeria, while he has never stopped being a public servant.... How did he come across such money and all of the 'New' investments that he now has? How much has he been earning as a public servant? It is not hard to see that it will NEVER tally..

Please let the EFCC act and be seen to act. This country needs all of the stolen funds returned, so that together we can move it forward.

We want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I hope that we can be confident, that it will happen.

The world is watching.
