How we entertainers helped politicians kill our fans in Nyanya - by Etcetera

Singer Etcetera thinks Nigerian entertainers are partly to be blamed for what happened at Nyanya Motor Park yesterday. Find his opinion piece below...
For God's sake, can Somebody please call Dbanj, Don Jazzy, Onyeka Onwenu, Duncan Mighty, Stephanie Okereke, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, Omotola, Rita Dominic, Aki and Pawpaw, Sammy Okposo, Sunny Neji, Maleke, Okey Bakassi, Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Daddy Showkey, Richard Mofe Damijo, Kwam 1 and other entertainers that have at one time or the other been seen dining with politicians? Can you please tell them that there has been a bomb blast in Nyanya? Can you include pictures of the mutilated bodies? Please don't forget to tell them that most of the dead might have been lovers of their music and movies and cheered them in every concert and football matches they played both at club level and the national team. Tell them that their CDs and Movies were bought by those dead fans for inspiration and because they wanted to feel alive and ease off the daily tensions faced everyday in this country.
That the Jingles done by Dbanj, Don Jazzy, Sammy Okposo, Onyeka Onwenu and other entertainers might have convinced some of those who have died in different Boko Haram raids or bad roads or lack of proper healthcare facilities to vote for politicians who have failed them in all ramifications? The same politicians that failed to protect the lives of those shredded bodies in Nyanya? That some of the dead fans in Nyanya might have even spent their little earnings to attend their concerts in Abuja and environs? Have you as an entertainer ever sat down to reflect on the fact that each time we give our voices to enhance the career of these politicians knowing they mean no good for this country that we are bringing more hardship and even death to our fans?

Why devote precious hours in the studio composing songs asking your fans to vote for politicians whose past stinks more than the dustbin at Ojota?

How do you feel listening to those songs today knowing that Mr Politician failed you and your die-hard fans? Can you give back those millions to bring back the lives of those dead fans in Nyanya, Jos, Maiduguri, Agatu in Benue? I guess not, because frolicking with the devil makes u perpetually his.

2015 is around the corner. Many of us entertainers will be called upon to do jingles, attend rallies wearing branded T-shirts in support of these same politicians. Millions of naira will be paid to your bank accounts. Thousands of bottles of MOET will be popped for you to feel good at different rally points while you convince your fans to join the bandwagon as part of the special few who voted for change.

Right now, some of us entertainers must be licking our lips in anticipation of the naira windfall come 2015. Let your conscience be your pilot. That is if you have one. May the souls of those fans who have died because of insecurity and corruption haunt every entertainer who refuses to repent from selling his or her talent for money at the expense of a better Nigeria.

And may the souls of all our faithfully departed fans REST IN PEACE. Amen!

Dear Etcetera, I've been reading your stuffs lately and as a writer I can feel the source of your pain. This is one of the most constructive post i have read on LIB. But unfortunately, we live in a country where people do not understand what patroitism and honesty really mean. The level of selfishness is now on the increase and money has taken our sense of shame and uprightness. Electra should have also, in my opinion call on the so called entertainers ro proceed enmasse to Abuja to donate blood because i dont think flight tickets would be too much for them to afford.

Anonymous said...

Amen but may God help us all

pls who is he?
i honestly tot he had one srz thing to say only to hear someone sounding like hes jealous nobody approaches him for election jingles...
pls wot do u suggest dey do?
make songs to convince their fans not to vote at all cos as far as am concerned our politicians r all d same.
the death of those innocent people has nothing to do with the entertainers but the government. the country is hard...my humble opinion.

Honestly, this guy is making sense.
These dastardtly acts didn't just start one day. They are all borne as a result of accumulated stinkers these politicians have made US pass through. we all may/might now feel concerned but it is getting nearer than we think.
Lets fight against this, using all vices we have available most especially using the social media.
Thank you.

Anonymous said...

We should stop passing blames and look for a way forward please - Nigerians should come together and say NO to PDP and APC government. Their actions only speaks coruption and greed. We need to fight for the future of this nation, 2015 is just around the corner and we want a MAN not a PARTY that will move this nation forward. Enough is enough!

And while at it Mr. ETC, better tell all those who are not as upright like you not to listen to your music, cause that your utopian world where the bad politicians only emerge from the moon and not from amongst us is only occupied by you and you only.

You are on point, Etcetera. We all need to re-assess our involvements, or a lack of them, in every event that happens in the life of our nation. Politicians have turned us into zombies who do foolish dances to their dirty tunes, all because of their blood-soaked, filthy, God-forbidden and cursed money. May God never spare these dirty politicians and their goons. On a daily basis, they sow the seeds of destruction, but God shall make them have the first bites of them. Just like that wicked one that died from a bite of Indian apples, may they and their offsprings evaporate the same way the dead vanished into the Nyanya air.

They promised us a breath of fresh air, but have given us only eyes to cry with. May they not know peace, favour, joy, blessings in their God-forsaken lives.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace, while those of the perpetrators of this heinous act (and other past acts) know no peace till they meet their father, satan, in hell. Amen.

Pls, I dnt even get exactly the point u re driving at but kno this today...ppl's votes do not count during election. In this country, the incumbent govt alwz wins except if they dnt want to com back. That's why som desperate ppl want to intimidate and demoralize GEJ, for him to step down bc he's d only significant opponent. So pls leave entertainers out of it. If u see those millions, u wil stil grab them. Our problm lies solely in this dirty game of politics nd d players

sometimes I wonder how post like this are on air. When grave matters of bombing somebody is making it trivial by lambasting artiste who are on their different world. Face the matter on ground and stop chasing shadows. I ask if the musicians hadnt gone to politicians, will there still be bombing? I have great problems with people sectionalizing national problems or bringing issues like this to an insignificant level. Musicians are hustlers just like everyone around, and telling me that their ass-licking syndrome is the reason for bombing is but being unfair to the dead. I sensed people from dft inclinations will narrow this death toll down to politics and voting, and I wonder which way forward. Please address the matters at the root; the cause, effects and plausible solutions, not mere ranting. Tnx
